Often, the things that weigh us down the most are the hardest to put into words. You might feel a "knot" of anxiety in your chest, the "heaviness" of depression in your limbs, or the "restless hum" of ADHD in your nervous system.
Creative Movement Therapy (also known as Dance Movement Therapy) is based on the simple but powerful idea that the mind and body are inseparable. If your body is holding onto stress, your mind will stay in "survival mode." By bringing movement into our sessions, we can access and release emotions that talk therapy alone might miss.
We don't just move for the sake of moving; we move to regulate the nervous system. Olena uses somatic (body-based) techniques to help you transition from "stress" to "safety."
Nervous System Regulation: We use rhythmic movement to help "thaw" the freeze response of depression or "ground" the high-voltage energy of anxiety.
Non-Verbal Expression: For teens or adults who feel "stuck" or "shut down," movement provides a way to communicate frustration, grief, or joy without the pressure of finding the perfect word.
Empowered Confidence: Learning to move with intention helps you feel "at home" in your skin, improving body image and self-esteem.
This is the most common concern we hear. You do not need any dance experience or "rhythm" to benefit from Creative Movement Therapy.
This isn't about performance or following a choreography. It’s about:
Somatic Awareness: Noticing how a specific emotion feels in your shoulders or breath.
Expressive Motion: Using physical space to explore boundaries and safety.
Grounding Techniques: Using your feet and the floor to feel stable when life feels chaotic.
Traditional therapy can feel like an interrogation—sitting face-to-face with an adult for an hour. Movement therapy changes the power dynamic. It allows teens to:
Release Pent-Up Energy: Productively move through the physical "jitters" of ADHD.
Externalize Stress: Literally "shake off" the pressure of school and social expectations.
Build Autonomy: Discover that they have the power to change how they feel by changing how they move.
